Perspiration (Sweat)
By definition perspiration is a fluid secreted through the pores of the skin that contains urea and salts or the act of secreting the fluid containing urea and salts through the pores of the skin. Perspiration occurs when the body heats up above its normal temperature. This can happen when the body is act work as with exercise or due to illness. Generally perspiration is colorless and odorless. However, when the sweat comes in contact with bacteria that is on the skin it produces a body odor unique from one person to another. How poignant of an odor mainly depends on the amount of sweat and bacteria on the skin.
The Benefits
The are two main benefits of perspiring. The first has to do with the cooling of the body. One of the purpose that the body sweats is to cool the body, by keeping the skin cool. One of the disadvantages of using an effective antiperspirant is that it add in the overheating of the body. Also those chemicals used in antiperspirants have been linked to health problems such as cancer.
For those people who are attempting to lose weight and have a weight retention problem, sweating is a blessing. Along with the burning of calories, weight loss is also achieved through the elimination of water through sweating. Note that you should replace an adequate amount of water so you that you are not dehydrated.
In Conclusion
We see then that perspiring (sweating) is a healthy response to the body overheating. It keeps the body cool and is an added weight loss gain for those looking to loss weight and/or have a water retention problem. The use of antiperspirants are counterproductive to one's health. Instead washing, non antiperspirant deodorant and lotions or oils should be used to combat offensive body odor after sweating.
